Actually I haven't put the GFS in yet 'cause I gotta go home and get my soldering gear. I like the dark and warm tone, and will get back to ya on how it sounds when it's hooked up.

bugsville, does the name "Liverpool" retrotron mean the pup sounds like a Gerorge Harrison Gretch or a John Lennon Rickenbacker?
id say its more of a ric type crunchy twang/clang
if that makes any sense to ya!
Is that Liverpool pup and overwound or a vintage?
its the overwoudn 'hot' one, i will try and get sound clips of it soon |

| bugsville, I'd sure love to hear a few samples of that pup. Even a few simple chords are enough to get a feel for what it sounds like. |

Here's mine...a fiftyone relic: I tried to make it look like one that's been in someone's hands & on the road since 1951! Stripped & stained the neck and a dozen coats of satin wipe-on-poly (not my 1st choice but it worked out fine), metal parts aged in an muriatic acid vapor bath, and chipped/distressed body --various instruments of torture were used! I have a few finishing touches to go yet--pickguard scratches --I figured playing it was the best way to do this--it will debut at our Barnapalooza (barn dance) gig this weekend and it needs a couple cigarette burns on the headstock....(but I don't smoke anymore so am trying to bum a smoke!). Looking for an old lipstick style neck telepickup cover too.

dugaar,
Pretty sweet! Nice relic job! Yeah, a cigarette burn would add some character. It's the first REAL looking relic I've seen. Is that the stock pup in the neck slot minus the cover? Big SRV vibe!

Great relic job, especially the body contour wear.

Very cool - I like the plain headstock as well. That'll get people asking "What is that guitar?" Or the infamous, "I'd bet you've had that since you bought it!" Uhhhhh .... yeah.
I like the old speaker cab as well - I'm assuming that's functional?

Thank you for the comments....this place has been a great resource for me.
Cover is off the neck PU....
Victor cab functional...original speaker --just wired straight to jack w/o all the interesting stuff that was inside....plan was to get a beefy replacement speaker but I'm still enjoying the flap of the original. Goes open or close back depending...I cushioned the fit of the back to keep it from rattling when in closed mode..... |

Has anyone heard whether they will ever do a run of these guitars again--I think I need a blonde....

Ok, so here's my new GFS pearloid pickguard:

I see that you also discovered that the GFS guard requires another screw. Did any of your original holes line up? Only two lined up on the same guard I put on my sunburst. The pearloid looks nice on your blond. I think I'll do the same. Jason

Here is my '51. It has a GFS pickguard and bridge. But I don't know what the pickups are since I bought it used from a store locally.
