ALL-
Just a heads up for those of you looking for the Wilkinson short bridge with brass compensated saddles. I just bought one from a guy on ebay, he has about 10 in stock.
The seller is azjman, in arizona.
I can't recommend him yet until I receive the unit. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks

Thanks, Dave.
One more time, for the record. Is there anything on the bridge assembly that proves where it is made? I know one of the popular vendor sources was Hong Kong, but how much does that actually mean?
I don't like to assume things are not from China; but I don't like assuming they are, either.
Much obliged.

Hey BB, This bridge has "Sung-Il" on it which I believe is Chinese, so Hong Kong as it's origin is a good bet. I bought these bridges from this same Ebay seller, put them on two guitars and sold four of them on this forum. The shipping is cheaper if you buy from his website instead of Ebay. GP

Sung-Il might be Korea. I just took apart a knock-off SG fron Indonesia and the bridgepiece is stamped Sung-Il BN002 KOREA. I don't know if any stuff from China is stamped Sung-Il. |

Just to broaden the sample, I'll check mine when I get to my other house (hopefully tomorrow).
I'm guessing China, but as BB says, best not to assume.
Edit: Kind of OBE at this point, but I finally checked and, sure enough, they're marked "by Sung Il", so I guess that would make them Korean.

Yeah, Sung Il is a Korean name, with a Korea origin company. That could mean the part is made in Taiwan, Indonesia, Korea; there's even a tiny chance it is made in Japan. The Wilkinson/Sung Il long Tele bridge plate and saddles do appear different in appearance and are distributed quite differently - but we really don't know where those are made, either.

I put one of these on my '51 today, and it's great. They're a solid little unit, especially for the price, and the added clarity you get from those brass saddles is excellent. I've not yet performed the string through mod due to lack of a decent sized drill press, but I imagine it'll sound even better once I get onto that.
And fit the new SD SH-4 JB humbucker I have for it! |

UPDATE---
I received the Wilkinson short bridge yesterday. The seller on Ebay was fast, and the item arrived as promised. For those wondering, it is stamped with “Sung Il”. I also ordered a full size Tele style Wilkinson bridge (for a different project) from Guitar Fetish ($30), and it also is stamped “Wilkinson by Sung Il”.
I tried to do the Bubba mod to the original bridge plate, but I messed it up. I did not space the new holes properly, so the original bridge is now history.
The Wilkinson short bridge will be going on now. I am going to get it done at my local shop, I don't trust myself to do it correctly.

Great photo. Nice detail.
Someone gave me the full length vintage Wilkinson Sung Il Tele plate and I am real sure that the saddles and saddle hardware are identical. There'll be some definitive word at some point. I sure hope they are Korean; I'd like to try some.

I have it on VERY good authority that the short and the long versions of the Wilkinson Sung Il are in fact made in Korea.
Which is wonderful news, at least for me.
I just wished I liked the saddles better. Not sure what kinda brass this is; I guess any cast saddle will be #2.

Awesome!! that's the same setup I'm rocking. The SH-4s sound sooooooooo awesome on these guitars!! I love the analog swirl you get from these pickups (SD JB SH-4) when you crank them....*shiver*
